Bluesy-neo-post-punk-alternative-pop band , Meet Hello Lady

hellolady

Let’s start the weekend off with some very cool alternative rock n roll. Hello Lady has that 90’s feel, big guitars, great range of styles within the EP. Rooted in a bluesy tradition, I think at times Lea gives off a little Patti Smith vibe and I can’t recall ever saying that about anybody. Almost on the punkier side of rock and that’s probably from the mix of all the talent coming out of Hello Lady. Fantastic guitar and drum work glues it all together, catchy stuff, give a listen, start your weekend off with some cool tunes….

Hi our name is….

Hello, Lady

People say we sound like…..

We usually hear that we are the offspring of Feist and Modest Mouse. Which is very very flattering.

We are…

Kyle Westberg

Kolby Kostynuik

Lea Arngrimson

Dieter Desmet

We are originally from…..

Kyle – Yorkton, SK

Kolby – Canada

Lea – North America

Dieter – Belgium

Who are some that have an influence on your sound??

Kyle – Tool and punk-rock

Kolby – Benny Greb & Peter Gabriel

Lea – The Riot grrl scene in the 90’s mixed with a various amount of adult contemporary and a pinch of John Lee Hooker.

Dieter – Some of my ideas clearly sound like The pixies and sonic youth

The first time we met was…..

Kyle – I met Lea when my old band did some recording in her studio in 2009. I met

Kolby and Dieter at the first Hello, Lady jam and I think that night….I truly met myself as well…bahaha just kidding.

Kolby – The first time we met was in Lea’s basement. By the grace of God Dieter, Kyle, and I were able to convince Lea that we could be her backing band, so she took off the restraints.

Lea – At different times for me, through studio work and random meet ups.

Dieter – Magical

We knew we were going to be a Band…

Kyle – When the songs just came pouring out. We instantly had awesome chemistry.

Lea – When I went to the washroom during jam and they wrote Beautiful Thing ( Musically ) without me.

Dieter – When Lea said so

Books we recommend …

Kyle – The Postmortal by Drew Magary

Kolby – I never learnt how to read.

Lea – Venus – Ben Bova

Dieter – Atomized by Michel Houellebecq

Our craziest gig ever was….

Kyle – For me it was one of our McNally’s gigs in Regina in August 2013. Lots of people dancing and singing along, I never felt more proud being in a band.

Kolby – Yorkton, nuff said

Lea – Lydias Saskatoon in ’13. Played a rowdy show with Miss Quincy. That night I learned that I love a rowdy crowd

Dieter – The time Lea got kicked out of the venue in Yorkton before we took the stage

Lea – …..I had a bad haircut before the Yorkton show and refused to take my hat off. Thus I got kicked out. It all ended well, the show did go on and the Jag was drank.

If you could pick any time to travel back to for music, where would you go and what year would it be….

Kyle – I’d be up and down the west coast of the United States hitting up shows in the early 90’s for sure!

Lea – I would go back to the 1920’s and hit up every underground blues bar in the south.

Dieter – 1970… To gently turn Jimi Hendrix onto his side the night he died. You’re welcome…

Growing up ,at home we listened to…..

Kyle – My dad introduced me to Zeppelin and Aerosmith when I was really young and my older sister got me into a lot of stuff like Silverchair, Tool and Bush etc

Kolby – The Cult, Colin James, & Moxy Fruvous

Lea – My dad used to play a lot of Queen, Roy Orbison, BB King and Eric Clapton

Dieter – Traditional Flemish folklore music

What Albums are on heavy rotation for you…

Kyle – Where do I begin?…I’ve Been listening to a lot of Thrash/hardcore punk and grindcore. Heavy Breathing by Black Breath, Unsilent Death by Nails and Fuck the Facts’ Misery EP, Oh and uh…The New Classic by Iggy Azalea is pretty rad.

Kolby – U2’s Achtung Baby, Gotye’s Making Mirrors, and Houses’ A Quiet Darkness

Lea – Right now I have Vance Joy on heavy repeat.

Dieter – The new warpaint album, the war on drugs, the afghan Whigs, any album by Will Oldham

If you could open for any Band right now who would that be and why?

Kyle – It would be a dream come true to open up for either Matthew Good or Silverchair. I’m just such a massive fan of both.

Kolby – Royal Canoe, because they’re a Canadian band with a lot of momentum at the moment, and from what I’ve heard they’re really nice guys and clearly great musicians.

Lea – Mother Mother, I think our sounds would mix well.

Dieter – Bruce Springsteen. Because I really want to see him live.

When you are touring and have some time off , where could we find you..,.,

Kyle – On the hunt for pulled pork poutines.

Kolby – Most likely in the nearest pub or coffee house to the venue.

Lea – In the pub

Dieter – Aimlessly wandering the streets

The one thing we want you to remember while your listening to us

Kyle – Don’t dig too deep or try and pick it apart too much. Just enjoy.

Kolby – We’re still growing and finding our sound

Lea – Kolby is probably drunk
Dieter – To stop by the merch table and by our EP

give a listen to this kick ass EP…

and you can…follow/LIKE/BUY/keep up with Hello Lady…..
